The power of art to create bonds and raise awareness is shown through the outcomes of the France’s Crowe Tapestry Artist project. In this project, refugee women are given a chance to express themselves through their art and craft. They are taught how to weave in classes offered by the initiative. Each participant have their own loom and sewing items, and are able to choose the time to participate in the activity as well as which group to belong to.
In addition to the beautiful crafts resulting from the project, the outcomes include friendships between participants and increased awareness of the existence and plight of refugee women living abroad. This has provided participants with more means and capabilities for inclusion. The project has been executed in Roscommon County, Ireland, and the created crafts were displayed at the local refugee center.
